The University of Hyderabad is a public research university funded in 1974. It is recognized as an Institute of Eminence (IoE) by the University Grants Commission (UGC) through the UGC Guidelines, 2017 for public institutions.


Ranking & Awards


It has been ranked the 4th best in the country in 2019 by the National Institute Ranking Framework. It was ranked 601-650 in the QS World University Rankings of 2018.

It opted for a rigorous evaluation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission. The apex Council of NAAC awarded the top grade of A ***** to the University (on a five-point scale A* to A*****).

It is ranked in the range of 591-600 in the World by QS Rankings 2019. In the 2019 edition,it performed among the top 59% in the QS World University Rankings.

It has also been rated by the NISSAT of the DSIR, Government of India, as the only University under the ‘High Output – High Impact’ category among the top 50 institutions in India with publications in citation – index journals.
