Re: How To Get A Job As A Train Driver

To become a train driver you need to meet some qualification first:
You must be at least 18 years of age.
You must pass a background check and a drug screen.
You must be able to work alone for long periods of time, handle emergency situations and think for yourself.

Attend formal training, which will consist of classroom study and hands-on experience

Get an entry-level job with a railroad company, such as a laborer, rail yard worker, brakeman or conductor.

Pass the qualifying exams for different positions and work your way up to driver

Train driving does not require any high academic achievement, but you do need to be self-disciplined, comfortable working alone for long periods, able to handle responsibility and be able to be trusted to apply safety-critical procedures without being supervised.

Trainee drivers can earn from around £20,000 to £30,000 a year, depending on the company and stage of training.
Qualified drivers can earn from £35,000 to over £60,000 a year

If your initial application is successful, you will be invited to an assessment centre for tests and an interview. Tests could cover:

Basic mechanical knowledge
Ability to remember information
Reaction times
Concentration skills
Group exercises.
