Hey as Mbale Municipality is located 34 degrees 10 east of the prime meridian and 1 degree 03 north of the equator; situated at the foot of Wanale Ridge 8,000 ft the most prominent westerly ridge of Mt. Elgon.

HIV/AIDS Prevalence in Mbale District

HIV/AIDS has affected mostly the productive section of the population. Young men
and women have died due to the epidemic leaving a big number of dependants more
especially the orphans.

It is believed that the community is more affected and HIV/AIDS is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in the Municipality.

Although not all mothers attending antenatal in Mbale Hospital reside within Mbale Municipality, the records are not very different from he findings of the National Sero Behavioural Survey 2004-2005which indicate that the HIV prevalence for the
urban areas is at 10.1% in the adult population

objectives

To prevent further HIV infection through target preventive programmes.

To reduce stigma and discrimination and protect the rights of the infected
and affected as a means of ensuring a conducive working environment

Increase access to treatment, care and psychosocial support among the
affected municipal staff access without discrimination

Support some selected workplaces (Institutions) both formal and informal
in Mbale Municipality to develop and implement Workplace policies and
programmes

Mobilize resources to support implementation of Mbale Municipal Council
HIV/AIDS Workplace policy
