Kodaikanal International School was established in 1901 by members of the London Missionary Society, American Lutheran Mission, Wesleyan Mission, American Arcot Mission and American Madura Mission. Kodaikanal School Church building was placed on the Highclerc campus. Many different church organizations have given their support to the church at the time of its bad condition. These include: American Baptist Church Canadian Baptist Church Christian Church/Disciples Church of Sweden Mission Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Mennonites German Evangelical Lutheran Church Lutheran Church / Missouri Synod Presbyterian Church (USA) Reformed Church in America United Church of Christ United Methodist Church Hungarian Lutheran Church Assemblies of God Swedish Baptist Church This church is re-constituted in the early 1990's. Kodaikanal International School was established in the year 1901.It is a co-educational independent residential school offering education for grades P-12. Facts of interest: • Accredited in 1968 by the US Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools (Philadelphia) • Established in 1901 as an American residential school for the children of missionaries in South India • In 1976 KIS became the first IB school and first international school in India by adopting the International Baccalaureate Diploma program; the third school in Asia and one of only 10 schools worldwide to trial the IB Diploma program • In 1994 KIS became the first school in India to have its own separate campus for camping and outdoor initiatives • In 1981 the KIS High School Diploma was recognized by the Association of Indian Universities, Delhi and today allows KIS graduates direct entry to Indian universities • In December 2006 KIS gained authorization from the IBO to offer the Middle Years Program to grades 6-10 • In 2012, KIS is authorised by the IBO to offer Primary Years Program to grades K-5 • Today KIS is one of India's most prestigious independent academic schools • KIS is a non-denominational Christian school.
