The federal government formed the Hardest Hit Fund (HHF) to assist homeowners in states that have been affected the most by recent housing and economic downturns.

The Hardest Hit Fund includes multiple programs developed for homeowners faced with different types of financial hardship.

Programs available in your state -




All Hardest Hit Funds Programs-

Unemployment Program-


If you're jobless or your income has decreased, you may advantage from this state program that will pay your monthly mortgage for a period of time.

Second Lien Unemployment Program-

You may be eligible for help with your home equity loan or line of credit payments for a period of time, if you're unemployed or your income has been reduced.

Reinstatement Program-

If you're behind on your mortgage payments, you may qualify for a one-time contribution to help make your mortgage more current and prevent foreclosure.

Second Lien Reinstatement Program-

You may be eligible for a state program that makes a one-time contribution to help you avoid foreclosure and make your loan more current.

Modification with State Contribution Program-

If you owe more than your home is worth, you may be eligible for a state program that helps you qualify for a loan modification by bringing your loan current and reducing your mortgage balance.

Recast Program-

If you owe more than the value of your home, you may be eligible for a reduction of your principal balance.

First Lien Relief Program-

If you're struggling with your mortgage payments but have not qualified for other foreclosure prevention programs, you may be eligible for a lump sum payment to cancel your remaining mortgage balance.

Second Lien Relief Program-

If your home equity loan or line of credit is preventing you from getting help with your first mortgage, this state program may eliminate your home equity loan or line of credit.

Transition Assistance Program-

If you can no longer stay in your house and have been approved for a short sale or deed in lieu of foreclosure, this state program may help pay relocation expenses.
