GPAT Pharmacognosy Notes
I am preparing for Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) from one month but I have no study material for Pharmacognosy . Would you please suggest me some Expert notes of Pharmacognosy for GPAT ? Please provide me these notes in word format so I can get their Xerox .

Pharmacognosy is one of the core subjects of pharmacy curriculum and to crack GPAT with high percentile it is mandatory that a student must study this subject. Here is Pharmacognosy Notes of GPAT: Digitalis is obtained from the leaves of digitalis purpurea belonging to the family scrophulriaceae. The name to the plant was given by Fuchus in 1542. Microscopy of digitalis- Leaves of digitalis are dorsiventral with anomocytic stomata. Digitalis contain uniseriate, multicellular & blunty pointed trichomes. Collapsed cell covering trichomes is an important characterstic of digitalis. Ca oxalate and sclerenchyma is absent in digitalis. Starch grains are present in endodermis. Microscopy And Other Some Important Points Of Drugs Volatile Oil containing drugs: Eucalyptus oil: Trichomes are absent Presence of Sunken stomata Epidermis is polygonal Presence of schizogenous oil glands, both prismatic and spharides calcium oxalate Indian cinnamon: 1. Compound quill 2. It is inner bark so it lacks cork and primary cortex. 3.Perocycle is prominent with sclerenchymatous cells 4. Acicular calcium oxalate and starch grains 5. It does not contain coumarin 6. 5- 10 % eugenol Chinese cinnamon: 1. Stem bark is Single quill 2. Complete stem bark and cork contains polygonal tubular cells 3. Pericycle is made up of continuous band of stone cells and lignified pericyclic fibers are embedded in sheath of stone cells 4. Acicular calcium oxalate crystals and starch grains are abundant 5. It contains coumarin 6. Cinnamic aldehyde is main chemical constituent while very small amount of eugenol |
