Critical Appreciation of Dance
Unit 1: Critical Appreciation of Dance
Written Paper – 1 hour
50 marks – 20%
Set Dance
Unit 2: Set Dance - Practical Examination
Solo Performance – 1–1½ minutes
30 marks – 20%
Set Dance
Group Dance
Unit 3: Performance in a duo/group dance
3 – 3½ minutes
Controlled Assessment
30 marks – 20%
Choreography
Unit 4: Choreography
Task A: Solo Composition 20 marks – 15%
Task B: Choreography – solo/duo/group 40 marks – 25%
Unit total: 60 marks – 40%
Course Times:
Tuesdays 5.00-7.00 – term starts Tuesday 16th September 2014
Intensive head-start week - Mon 8th, Wed 10th & Fri 12th Sept 5.00-7.00
Students will be expected to book studio space at NLPAC in their own time to rehearse their choreography
Fees
Course Fee - £750 (can be split into 3 x termly payments)
Discount - 10% discount if fees are paid in full at the beginning of the course
Other - £95 – covers exam fee, course materials & theatre trip
GCSE Dance helps students develop technical and expressive skills as well as knowledge and understanding of dance through performance, choreography and critical appreciation of dance.

This four unit specification enables students to:

•increase their confidence and self-esteem

•employ the skills of problem solving and creativity

•make knowledgeable decisions about dances

It allows students to actively and physically demonstrate their abilities through the controlled assessment which is worth 60% of the qualification, a set study worth 20% and the practical exam, worth 20%.
