Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) 2017 is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras for admission to five year Integrated Master of Arts (M.A.) Programmes

HSEE is for admission into the two following courses:

a. Integrated M.A. in Development Studies
b. Integrated M.A. in English Studies

HSEE Eligibility Criteria

Final exam of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities

Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Exam conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities

Final exam of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy; senior secondary school exam conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects

HSC vocational examination

Any Public School, Board or University Exam in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)

General Certificate Education (GCE) exam (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level

High School Certificate Exam of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva
Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) exam outside India

Percentage of Marks in QE:

Candidates belonging to the GEN Category & OBC Category must secure a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in the QE.

Candidates belonging to SC/ST & PwD Categories must secure a minimum of 55% in aggregate in the QE

Date of Birth:

Candidate, whose date of birth falls on or after 01st October 1992

Exam Pattern

HSEE exam is of three hours duration and has two parts.

Part I consists of objective type multiple-choice questions for 2(half) hours duration (150 minutes), administered through computer.

Part II involves essay writing for 30 minutes to be written on answer sheet distributed to the candidates at the end of Part I

Part I covers the following topics:

(i) English and Comprehension Skill;
(ii) Analytical and Quantitative Ability;
(iii) General Studies covering the areas of India Economics and
(iv) Environment and Ecology)

Part II requires the candidates to write an essay on general topic involving description, or/and reflection or/and discussion

Exam Fee & Payment Mode:

Exam Fee for Female/SC/ST/PwD - Rs.1100/-

Exam Fee for All Others - Rs.2200/-

Additionally, the service charges of the Bank will be Rs.35/-

The Exam Fee must be paid either through Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card or through the Indian Bank Challan generated during the process of application
