The MA English programme offered by School of Distance Education under CIEFL (now, The EFL University) offers a blend of conventional literature courses and courses in linguistics, phonetics and English language learning and teaching in order to open up a variety of opportunities after one complete the programme.

It will provide complete access to literatures in English, in addition to an understanding of principles of linguistics and phonetics, and 2nd language learning and teaching.

The foundation course in Academic Reading and Writing will prime you for the skills required for higher academic studies.

There is no entrance test for admission to the programme. Those found eligible will be admitted.

Eligibility:
Graduation with English as a subject

Duration:
2-4 yrs

Course:
The programme consists of two parts, Part I and Part II.

Part-I (4 compulsory courses)
1. Academic Reading and Writing
2. Introduction to Linguistics
3. British Literature I
4. British Literature II

Part-II (2 compulsory courses and 2 Elective courses)

Compulsory courses:
1. Second Language Learning and Teaching
2. Literary Criticism and Theory

Elective courses:
3. American Poetry and Drama
4. American Fiction
5. Indian Writing in English
6. Postcolonial Literatures
