Re: DLR Institute of Robotics and System Dynamics

The DLR Robotics and Mechatronics Center (RMC) is a group and center for research and development in the areas of robotics, mechatronics, and optical systems. Mechatronics is the closest combination of mechanics, electronics and information technology for the realization of intellectual mechanisms which interact with their environment.

Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics

The goal of the Institute is to design the new generation of multisensory light-weight robots for space applications which are operable by astronauts as well as from ground stations as well, based on powerful telerobotic concepts and man-machine-interfaces. The goal is characterized by a high degree of interdisciplinary and consists of a few major task areas:

Mechatronics - sensory and actuator developments
Learning - adaptation and self-improvement
Vision - real-time visual skills for intelligent robot control
Telerobotics - remote control concepts for telecontrol, X-by-wire, and space
Space Robotics - robotics space applications
Medical Applications - robotics in medical applications

Institute of System Dynamics and Control

The Institute of System Dynamics and Control is responsible for advancing the state-of-the-art in system dynamics and control technologies for high-performance mechatronic systems in aerospace, robotics and ground vehicle application.

The rising requirements on higher performance, improved comfort, safety, lower energy consumption, etc. for novel technical products urge the need for better dynamics and control methods and tools of practical value.

In response to the need, the System Dynamics and Control Department conducts research in the following areas:

Multidisciplinary modeling and systems identification
Computational methods for control
Robust and fault tolerant conrol methods
Non-linear model based control synthesis methods
Optimization-based multi-disciplinary design and analysis
