Re: Department of Marine Science University of Calcutta
Marine Science Department was set up in the year 1983 according to the UGC rules and UNESCO design took after by other conspicuous World Universities. The department has gained advanced types of gear like GC, AAS, DOC Analyzers, Vivracorer with particle chromatography, Cascade Impactor, Phase differentiating magnifying lens, Marine algal culture hatcheries and so forth. A few understudies got position in a few places in India, for example, National Institute of Oceanography, Goa; Vizag; CMSRI – Bhabnagar; NIOT-Madras; Anna University and so on and abroad, for example, USA, Czechoslovakia, Japan, German; Australia and so on., Academic Faculty members: Name Designation Area of specialization Phone number Dr. Santosh Kumar Sarkar Professor ( in Extension Service) Marine & Estuarine ecology sarkar.santosh@gmail.com 09831242492 Dr Tarun Kumar De Professor Marine Microbiology, Plankton Ecology and Mangove biodiversity. tarunde@yahoo.co.in; detarun@gmail.com 9432249136 Dr Sandip Mukhopadhyay Associate Professor Marine Bio-geo-chemistry skm.caluniv@gmail.com 9433806845 Courses Programme Level of study Eligibility Intake capacity M.Sc. Coastal pollution, Bioaccumulation and Biomagnifications of pollutants in marine/estuarine food chain. Aquaculture and fisheries management; Marine microbiology. Effects of changes of external forces on boundary condition on eutrophication; Characterization of humic substances by synchronous Fluorescence Spectroscopy and their interaction with heavy metals. Exchange of green house gases between atmosphere and Sunderban Biosphere; Nitrogen fixing by cyanobacteria and othe microorganisms.
