The Department of Design (DoD), one of the thirteen departments at Indian Institute of Technology IIT Guwahati.

The department offers an M.Des. degree, a B.Des. degree (the only undergraduate level degree of its kind in an Indian Institute of Technology) and a PhD degree in Design.

The focus of the program is on the study, invention, and creative use of technologies to create effective, usable, enjoyable experiences with technology through interdisciplinary research in engineering, design, behavioral and social sciences, and to understand the impact of technology on individuals, groups, and organizations.

Courses offered-

Bachelors in Design (B. Des)

Eligibility criteria -

Candidate have passed the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) with physics, chemistry and mathematics as subjects.

Candidate should have a valid score for the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) conducted by IITs.

Masters in Design (M.Des)

Masters in Design (M.Des) is one of the unique program offered by Department of Design (DoD), IIT Guwahati.

Student applying for post graduate (M.Des) program should qualify the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) conducted by IITs as a part of their central admission procedure.

PhD program

The Ph.D program will emphasize investigative work in fundamental Design which is not only interdisciplinary but also intradisciplinary.

The range of disciplines of integrative interest include, but are not necessarily limited to, Usability Engineering, Interaction Design, Design Semantics, Experiential Design, Environment Design, Human–Computer Interaction Design, Ergonomics, Design Management and Product Design Engineering.
