The function of the Customs Department is to control the import and export of goods with the purpose of collecting duty and maintain a check on the entry of prohibited and restricted goods. Customs Officers Exam Date The notifications about the Customs Officers Exam are published in the employment newspaper and other related periodicals. The exam is conducted annually but there are many other private companies who also offer the same job. Eligibility Criteria A Bachelor’s degree with above 55% of marks is the basic qualification. Age above 19 yrs Qualities required for the position as a Custom Officer Age limit- 18 years minimum Indian citizenship Must have a Vehicle license Ability to work in flexible schedules Have reliable transportation Should never have used drugs of any kind Must have cleared pass an extensive background check Must be able to fruitfully complete all training necessary for the desired position Must be able to turn on a radio or telephone equipment and console monitors Display an aptitude to cooperate warmly and commune with the community Qualifying Exam Appear for the Civil Services Examination which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. The Entrance Exam provides entry into 27 different services like the Indian Customs & Central Excise Services. The Civil Service Exam is conducted in two separate part which are the Preliminary and Main Exam. All who are selected go to Chennai for training in the functions of Customs Department and those selected for Central Excise Service training go in one of the metropolitan cities. |

To become a Customs Officer, candidates are required to appear for the Civil Services Examination directed by the Union Public Service Commission. The Exam provides entry into 27 different services which comprises of the Indian Customs & Central Excise Services. The Civil Service Exam is conducted in two separate parts. Preliminary and Main Exam. Applicants selected are either sent to Chennai for training in the functions of Customs Department or Applicants selected for Central Excise Service training is done in one of the metropolitan cities. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s degree with 55% marks . • Age limit- 18 years old • Ability to work flexible schedules • Indian citizenship • Must possess a Vehicle license • Have reliable transportation • Should never have used drugs of any kind • Must pass an extensive background check • Must be able to activate a radio or telephone equipment and console monitors • Display an aptitude to cooperate genially and communicate with the community • Must be able to successfully complete all training required for the desired position The notifications are published in the employment newspaper and other prominent periodicals. For the exam applicants must be aware of all the current affairs. Reading of newspapers regularly will be of help. Applicants must have good knowledge in G.K, English and basic Mathematics etc as the entire exam is based on these subjects and followed by the selection and interview. |
