When was Central Reserve Police Force came into existence ? What are the duties performed by the Central Reserve Police Force ?

The Central Reserve Police Force came into existence in the year 1939 as Crown Representative’s Police.

It became the Central Reserve Police Force in 1949.

It functions under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India.

The Force has grown into a big organization with 231 Bn, ,41 Group Centres, , 3 CWS, 7 AWS, 20 Training Institutions 3 SWS & 4 Composite Hospitals of 100 bed and 17 Composite Hospitals of 50 bed.

The head office is located at New Delhi, India .

Duties performed by the CRPF are:

Crowd control.

Dealing with Left Wing Extremism.

Riot control.

Counter Millitancy / Insurgency operations.

Overall co-ordination of security arrangement specially with regard to elections in disturbed areas.

Checking environmental de-gradation and protection of local Flora and Fauna

Protection of VIPs and vital installations.

Fighting aggression during War time.

Participating in UN Peace Keeping Mission.

Rescue and Relief operations at the time of Natural Calamities.
