The Central Reserve Police force is a governed by CRPF act for to p[rovides its police force.
The CRPF is governed by the CRPF Act 1949 (Act No. LX VI of 1949) published in Gazette of India Extraordinary part IV dated 30.12.1949 and received the ascent of the Governor General on 28th December,1949.

The Force was raised on 27 July 1939 at Neemuch MP, as Crown Representatives Police- renamed as Central Reserve Police after independence, with no greater fanfare than would a small band of eight officers, thirty subordinate officers and nine hundred and seventy other ranks, of trained & dedicated personnel, in urgent situations to quell an already-raging Prajamandal agitation spread in a number of princely state across pre-independence India.
