University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test taken by CBSE twice in a year for determining the eligibility for the:

Award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) and/or

Eligibility for Lectureship in Indian universities and colleges.

Eligibility

1. Educational Qualification:

Aspirants must have obtained 55% marks in Masters Degree .

However there is a relaxation of 5% marks for the SC/ ST/ P)/ VH category candidates in Masters Degree exam for being eligible in taking this test.

Candidates appearing at the qualifying Masters degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited

The Ph.D degree holders whose Masters level exam had been completed by 19th September, 1991 shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% marks

2. Age Limit

For Junior Research Fellowship:

Applicants must not be more than 28 years.

Relaxation up to 5 years belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PH/VH categories and to women applicants.

Three years relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing LL.M. Degree.

For Lectureship: No upper age limit .

Candidates should secure at least 55 per cent aggregate marks in post-graduation


Candidates should not be more than 30 years in age in order to be eligible for JRF

There is no age restriction to apply for the post of Assistant Professor

A relaxation of five per cent in educational qualification is given to reserved category candidates

A relaxation of five years in age criteria is given to reserved category candidates

Candidates who have cleared State Eligibility Test (SET) before June 1, 2002 are exempted from taking the UGC NET exam
