Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences was founded in 1986 with the vision to raise professionals and leaders of high academic calibre and unblemished character, nurtured with a strong motivation and commitment to serve humanity.

It was accredited in 2014 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an "A" grade. It was ranked 89 among universities in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2018, in the 101–150 band overall and 72 in the engineering rankings.
