Re: Cost Of Living in Germany

the cost of living in Germany is quite reasonable. The prices for food, accommodation, clothing, cultural events, etc. are basically in line with the EU average. You will need around 800 euros a month to cover your living expenses. The largest expense is your monthly rent.

Rent and utilities € 298
Food and drink € 165
Clothing € 52
Learning materials € 30
Car and public transportation € 82
Health insurance, medical costs, medicine € 66
Telephone, internet, TV € 33
Recreation, culture, sports € 68
Total € 794

Here is an estimated monthly expense for a family

€500 3 bedroom apartment
€200 Utilities (Gas, elec, heating, water)
€400 Groceries
€300-400 Health Insurance
€50 Vehicle Tax (for a small second had car)
€125 Vehicle liability insurance
€304 Taxes (Class 3)
€590 Social Security Contributions
€? Pension plan

Here is my estimate of benefits that we might be eligible

€150 Housing Benefits
€184 Monthly child benefits per child
€363 Child allowance tax credit (€4360 annual)
€140 Education benefits per child
