Re: Common Admission Test Eligibility Conditions

Common Admission Test or CAT is a national level MBA entrance exam conducted by IIMs. The admission of the 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and over 150 Business schools in India take place through CAT scores. The computer based CAT is conducted by Prometric.

CAT Eligibility Criteria:

The candidates should be graduates in any discipline from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks in aggregate.
For the SC, ST, OBC and DA category candidates, the minimum aggregate marks to be obtained are 45%.
Final year graduation students can also apply.

CAT Selection Process:
The candidates are selected by IIMs and other participating B-schools through the CAT scores followed by Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI) and Written Ability Test (WAT).

On the basis of the CAT cut off marks, the students will be short listed by the B-schools. The short listed candidates will then have to appear for the GD, PI and WAT rounds conducted by the B-schools individually.

CAT Exam Pattern:
CAT is a computer based objective type multiple choice questions test.
It will have 2 sections, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning.
The total duration is 140 minutes or 2 hours 20 minutes.
Each section has 70 minutes.
The total number of questions is 60, 30 questions in each section.
The first section that appears in computer screen of the test takers is Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and after 70 minutes, the section will automatically switch to the second section, the Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning.
