Bolton College is a further education college situated in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. It operates a number of Community Learning Centers in the surrounding area.

It provides a range of courses that include vocational education, work-based learning, ESOL courses, Diplomas, apprenticeships and Access courses.

Science GCSE:
GCSE in science at Bolton College encourages learners to be inspired, challenged and motivated by following a varied, practical, satisfying and meaningful course of study.

GCSE Science is broken down into four separate units:
• Biology ~ assessed in final examination
• Chemistry ~ assessed in final examination
• Physics ~ assessed in final examination
• Controlled Assessment incorporating the planning of, participation in and reflection on a scientific experiment

Science exams consist of a variety of question styles, including objective questions that test a learner’s knowledge, structured short answers. Every exam also assesses learner’s spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Controlled Assessment task allows students to experience what a full scientific investigation is like, and consists of planning, observation and conclusions.

After completing a GCSE in Science, candidates will be able to follow any of our Access pathways, which can potentially lead to a variety of job roles, including:
• Nurse
• Midwife
• Laboratory Technician
• Sports Coach
• Forensic Scientist
• Radiographer
