The Coal India Limited is an Indian state-controlled coal mining company headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, India and the largest coal producer company in the world and a maharatna company.

The company contributes to around 82% of the coal production in India. It produced 554.14 million tonnes of raw coal in 2016-17, an increase from its earlier production of 494.24 million tonnes of coal during FY201415

CIL has eight fully owned Indian subsidiary companies:
