Can you tell me about the eligibility requirement for admission in M.Phil Programme offered by University of Calicut as I want to check it before applying for it?

M.Phil Programme in the University of Calicut Teaching Departments for the following subjects; Arabic, Biotechnology, Botany, Women's Studies, Chemistry, Commerce, computer Science, Economics, Journalism, Education, English, Hindi, History, Library and Information Science, Life Sciences (Physiology, Microbiology and Biochemistry), Malayalam and Kerala Studies, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Sanskrit, Drama & Fine Arts (Drama, Music), Folklore Studies, Statistics, Zoology


Eligibility

One who possess Masters Degree in the subject concerned or any other relevant subject approved by the Board of Studies of the University or equivalent degree of any other Indian or Foreign Universities with minimum 55% marks is eligible to apply.

For OEC/ OBC candidates 5% mark relaxation will be given. For candidates belonging to SC/ST category and teachers under FIP Scheme, a pass in the qualifying exam is sufficient.



Entrance Examination

Admission to M.Phil is based on an entrance exam conducted by the Department and the marks obtained in the qualifying exam.

The rank list shall be prepared based on an index prepared, by giving equal weightage to the qualifying exam and entrance exam.

The entrance test shall consist of objective and descriptive type questions of 50 marks each, and the duration will be two hours.

One who secure 50% marks and above in the entrance exam is eligible to consider for admission to M Phil course

One belonging to SC/ST category, however, needs only 35% marks to qualify the entrance exam. Teachers of affiliated colleges (under FIP Scheme) are exempted from the entrance exam.

Out of the total number of seats in each Department 50% shall be reserved for students and 50% for teachers under FIP Scheme. If there is no eligible candidate in any category, the other category shall be considered.

Exemption from Entrance Test
UGC- CSIR – JRF Fellowship holders are exempted from Entrance Test and 1 (one) seat will be reserved for JRF holders.


Duration of the Program
M.Phil. programme shall be for a minimum duration of two consecutive semesters/one year.
