Here I am giving you information about 2 Year Diploma Courses in French:

Diploma Level – I
There will be two written papers each carrying 100 marks and viva-voce of 50 marks.

Paper – I 100 marks
Guidelines:
1. Questions related to the prescribed test; comprehension of a short passage.

2. General type of questions (at least 25 questions) to be asked. They need not be factual repetition of text

Grammar (from the prescribed text)

Simple composition of about 100 words in French on the topic studied.

Translation from French to English based on the vocabulary of the text

2 – YEAR PG DIPLOMA COURSE IN FRENCH

1. The above course will be of two years duration
2. This course will be open to those who have passed the Diploma Level II in French from Banaras Hindu University or any equivalent Diploma course of other Universities.
3. The application should have passed B. A. (Hons.)
4. This course will also be open to those graduates who have taken French as optional subject in graduation.
5. In all other cases applicants shall have to pass a proficiency test and an examination, to be conducted by the Department in the respective subject on the fixed date.
Level – I
Paper I – Comprehension, composition & Grammar
Paper II – Translation, Composition, Culture & Civilisation
Paper – I 100 marks
a. Comprehension (questions based on seen/ unseen texts to be answered in French. 25 marks
b. Composition 25 marks
c. Grammar 50 marks
Paper – II 100 marks
a. Translation of one unseen passage from French to English or Hindi 30 marks
b. Composition 40 marks
c. Questions based on Culture & Civilisation 30 marks
Viva- Voce 50 marks

Paper – III: Initiation to History of French Literature 100 marks
The emphasis will be on the name, works of French authors along the line of literary genres like poetry, drama, novel and the principal literary movements.
Books suggested:
a. Histoire de la littérature fraçaise; Cadoux (Pune University)
b. Coll. Lagarde + Surer.
Paper – IV : Novel 100 marks
a. Only first hand knowledge of each of the authors and his work with reference to the extracts contained in the prescribed book is required. Also extracts should be studied with a view to answering textual questions. 60 marks
Books prescribed:
Progresser en français (Samhita publication, Madras) – section on the Novel from pages 1-17.
b. First hand knowledge of one of the following texts and its author is required. Students are required to study and prepare one of the texts independently on their own. 40 marks
Books prescribed:
a. Candide; Voltaire (Texte en français facile, Hachette.)
b. Le tour du monde en 80 jours. (Texte en français facile, Hachette.)
Paper – V : Poetry and Short Story 100 marks
a. Poems should be studied in detail along with the general acquaintance with their poets and their works. 60 marks
b. Short story 40 marks
