Fashion Design (Associate of Arts)


The Fashion Design program is a terminal program designed to instill the characteristics that employers in the design industry require, including a strong foundation of design, illustration, computer, and presentation skills.

Students gain hands on experience not only in pattern making, clothing construction, draping, and specialty design.

The implementation of computer graphics into the curriculum is designed to provide graduates with even more of a competitive edge by using the computer for fashion illustrations, textile design, flats and specifications, graphic layouts, and spreadsheets.

Fashion Design AA Degree Program Outcomes

At the completion of this course of study, students should be able to do the following:

Research, design, develop, and produce an apparel collection.

Demonstrate fashion illustration skills both by hand and digitally.

Demonstrate the technical skills needed to produce garments.

Demonstrate textile fundamentals and apply to appropriate end use fabric selection.

Demonstrate industry-level communication skills in visual and oral presentations, as in a design collection and portfolio.

The Fashion Design program consists of 103.0 quarter credit hours completed in 90 weeks, or eight terms.

Prior to graduation, students are required to complete a 180-hour externship.
