Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University , Coimbatore was established in 1994 as a School of Engineering ans later it became a University in 2003 under the aegis of Mata Amritanandamayi Math.

The QS World University Rankings of 2018 ranked it 168 in Asia. It was ranked 15 in India overall by the National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2018 and 8th among universities.

There were 120 students and 13 faculty members. The Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has five campuses in three different states of India.
