The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) established its Kishanganj Centre in 2013, vide Govt. of India (MHRD) letter no. F.3-9/2008-Desk (U), dated 27 April 2010, and F.3-9/2008-Desk (U), dated 31 October 2012, adopted and ratified by the AMU Executive Council (EC) meeting, Statute 36, item no. 20, dated 10 October 2013.

The Centre is presently running in the rent-free buildings provided by the Govt. of Bihar (vide letter no. 835/C, dated 06 July 2013, duly signed by the District Magistrate, Aditya Kumar Das), viz., the Boys' Minority Hostel, and the Girls' Minority Hostel, at Halim Chowk, Purana Khagra, Kishanganj. These buildings are used as Academic Complex, Administrative Complex, Library, and hostels for the boys and girls.
