The study of PG course of bioinformatics includes the areas of development of new computational methods for studying organization and evolution of genes and genomes, computational approaches to macromolecular structure and dynamics and simulation, comparative evolutionary genomics, Drug design & discovery, pharma cogenomics, algorithm development, data base development, sequence analysis, data mining, Prediction and analysis of structure etc. M.Sc Bioinformatics Eligibility Candidates for admission to Master of Science in Bioinformatics shall be required to have passed B.Sc., (Bioinformatics/ Biotechnology/ Microbiology/ Biochemistry/ Botany/ Zoology/ Physics/ Chemistry) / B.Sc. (Agri.) / B.V.Sc., /B.Pharm.,/ B.E./B.Tech.,(Biotech/Bioinformatics)/MBBS or any other course equivalent thereto and must have obtained 55% marks at graduation level. Duration The course is extended over a period of 2 years under Semester Pattern accounting to 4 semesters. Standards of Passing and award of Division a) The minimum marks for passing in each theory / lab course are 50% of the marks prescribed for the paper / lab. b) One who secures 50% or more marks but less than 60% of the aggregate marks prescribed for four semesters taken together, shall be awarded SECOND CLASS. c) One who secures 60% or more of the aggregate marks prescribed for four semesters taken together, shall be awarded FIRST CLASS. d) The practical / project shall be assessed by the two examiners, appointed by the University. Number of candidates to be admitted The maximum number of students to be admitted for the Master’s Programme in an academic is up to 20. Admission Admission is based on merit basis in accordance with the number of applications received / entrance exam conducted on the following criteria: i) Entrance Examination Question Paper shall be in the following pattern a) No. of Questions to be covered from Physical/Life Sciences at + 2 level: 50 (compulsory) b) No of Questions to be covered from Physical Sciences at Degree level: 25 (compulsory) c) No of Questions to be covered from Life Sciences at Degree level or No of Questions to be covered from Mathematics at Degree level : 25 (optional) ii) A candidate may answer a maximum of 100 questions iii) Duration of Examination shall be two hours iv) Tamil Nadu Govt./University norms may be followed for selection Examination Question Pattern Part – A Theory Courses: Max: 75 Marks Ten questions (No choice) 10 x 2 = 20 marks (Two questions from each Unit) Part – B Five questions (either or type) 5 x 5 = 25 marks (One question from each Unit) Part – C Three questions out of five 3 x 10 = 30 marks Practical Viva-voce |
