The immunology section of this department is currently working on: Surface Immunophenotyping of Lymphocyte subsets (CD3+, CD3+CD4+, CD3+CD8+, CD38+ , HLADR, CD25+, CD71+ etc.) in Diagnostics (Evaluation of CD3+CD4+, CD3+CD8+ for monitoring of HIV infected patients) Research (Evaluation of activation markers in HIV infected patients; Evaluation of lymphocyte subsets in normal healthy north Indian population etc.) Studying of the immune profile in individuals infected with HIV-1 in North India Defining the T-cell epitopes on HIV-1 (Indian subtype-C), envelope and core protein Determining Cell Mediated immune response to HIV-1 (Indian subtype-C) Techniques Employed: PBMC Isolation and Cryopreservation FACS Calibur flow cytometer (Becton Dickinson, USA): Two colour & Three colour (standardised) ELISPOT Assay (for gag- HIV-1 Indian subtype-C peptides-standardised) Routine diagnostic work as Widal test, VDRL test, TPHA test, ASLO test Forth coming projects include- Intracellular cytokine staining assay (Four colour immunophenotyping) ELISPOT Assay (for env-gp-120, HIV-1 Indian subtype-C peptides) Immunological parameters in patients with dual infection (HIV and Tuberculosis) as surrogate markers of response to treatment.
