All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhubaneswar was established in 2012. The Institute operates autonomously under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It was previously known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose All India Institute of Medical Sciences, later it became AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

The foundation stone of this institute in Bhubaneswar was laid by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajapayee on July 15, 2003.
