The Railway Recruitment Board, Patna's origin was in 1961 when a small office of Railway Service Commission was established at Danapur which had an Assistant secretary and a few class III and class IV staff.

The sub office continued up to 1981 assisting the Railway service commission, Calcutta, Allahabad and Muzaffarpur in recruiting the candidates of all communities of Bihar State.
