The admission procedure for Engineering Colleges or Institutes in Karnataka is as follows:

Engineering Students must appear for:
CET, Karnataka i.e Common Entrance Test, Karnataka conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority
COMEDK - Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka for admission in more than 160 private colleges.
JEE Main for admission to NIT Surathkal for about 740 Seats.
Admissions for Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Udupi is based on marks obtained in the qualifying examination (10+2, or an equivalent SSC exam) and their performance in the Manipal University Online Entrance Test (MUOET, a computer-based test).

KCET:

A Common Entrance Test is conducted for the purpose of determining the eligibility / merit, for admission of Karnataka students to the First year or First semester of full time courses in engineering and architecture courses, in institutions within the State of Karnataka.
There are 43,276 engineering seats under the Common Entrance Test (CET) quota, against 46,542 last year.

Eligibility:

Students who have completed their 10+2 with minimum of 45% aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry and should have appeared for at least one of the entrance exams above.

The students should have studied and passed in some Government recognised educational institutions in the State of Karnataka for a minimum period of seven academic years commencing from 1st standard to 2nd PUC / 12th standard as on 1st July of the year in which the Entrance Test is held and must have appeared and passed either SSLC / 10th standard or 2nd PUC / 12th standard exam from Karnataka State.

In case of the student who had taken more than one year to pass a class or standard, the years of academic study is counted as one year only.

Admission Procedure:

KEA conducts CET for admission to Engineering Colleges.

Admission to Govt/University managed Engineering Colleges and Regional Engineering Colleges (Karnataka Quota) is completely regulated through CET.
Selection of the students is based on merit in CET.

The selection Committee interview the students and prepare a rank list based on performance in the entrance test, attainment etc.

Allocation of Seats: 95% for candidates passing PUC exam from Karnataka and 5% for students passing Diploma exam of the State Board of Technical Education.
