Part I - Preamble


Class VIII is the last year in the middle school and the third year of German as a Foreign language. The communicative approach used in classes VI and VII should have given the students a good grounding. They should by now be able to manage simple everyday situations.

It is important to ensure that the teacher keeps the learning objectives in mind while planning his/her class. The learning objectives set realistic aims for the students to achieve in a given academic year.

The students skill profile should move from being predominantly receptive to productive. The exercise forms used should give the students the scope to express themselves creatively in the classroom.

Projects form an integral part of the syllabus. Students should be encouraged to attempt research projects on German speaking countries through webquests on the Internet or in their libraries. The students should be encouraged to present these projects in class and talk about them
