State Level Eligibility Test
State Eligibility Test is for Lectureship Eligibility only. It is directed both in English and the vernacular. In order to maintain a consistent standard of graduate and post graduate teaching all around the nation, the Government of India by its notification in 1988 submitted that only those candidates would be believed eligible for a post lecturer, who as well fulfilling the minimum academic qualification for it, also qualify in comprehensive test, National Eligibility Test (NET), to be directed for the purpose.

Any Indian national who got Master Degree with atleast 55% marks (50% for SC/ST) is eligible to sit in the SLET. Clearing of NET confers qualification for lectureship upon Indian nationals, i.e. the NET qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of lecturer in all Indian universities/Institutes/colleges. States conducting SLET -currently, SET is being guided in the following states-

Maharashtra & Goa
Tamil Nadu (under consideration as on 14-07-2005)
Madhya Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh
Himachal Pradesh
Jammu & Kashmir
Rajasthan
West Bengal
NE-SLET (Which includes all North Eastern states and Sikkim)
Karnataka (Under consideration as on 14-07-2005)
