Railway Protection Force Act
RPF [Railway Protection ] Force Act 1957 Act to furnish for the formation and regulation of an armed force of the Union for the better protection and security of railway property and for matters related therewith. The Railway Protection Force has came forth from a turmoil of systems; there being as many forms of its existence and as many modes of operating as there were railway Companies in British India for giving the set-up a uniformity of working, With the foundation of amendment in RPF and Railways Act, RPF has been vested with the powers to investigate in Railways Act cases. RPF has accepted the gainsay and 1286 all important passenger trains have been furnished with RPF escorts over Indian Railways.
The RPF Act, 1957 was consequently changed through Parliament vide Act No.60 of 1985 on 20 September 1985 for the formation and maintenance of the Force as an armed force of the Union. It was versus this backdrop that the RPF Act and The Railways Act have been improved. The main aims is to supplement the attempts of the State Governments to reinforce the security of the passengers and the thier areas on Indian Railways. For imparting these additional obligations to the Railway Protection Force, the Railway Protection Force Act, 1957was once again changed through Parliament vide act No.52 of 2003 on 23rd December-2003 for furnishing more legal powers to RPF to furnish better protection to Railway Property, Passenger area and Passengers.
