Osmania University Department of Library and Information Science
The Department of Library Science, Osmania University was constituted in 1959 with the efforts of Late Mr. Yazdani, Mr. B. P. Shenoy and Mr. K. Raghava Reddy. Initially it provided two courses, viz. a Post-Graduate Diploma and a Post-matriculation Certificate in Library Science. The Certificate Course was allowed in 1962 following the report of the Advisory Committee (Sinha Committee) appointive by the Government of India. In 1965 the Diploma Program was substituted with a Post-Graduate Bachelor’s Degree Program (BLISc). On the basis of UGC recommendations, the nomenclature of the Department and its programs has been exchanged from Library Science to Library & Information Science in mid 1970s.
