INDIAN FOREST SERVICE India is one of the First nations in the world to have stated scientific management of its forests. During the year 1864 the then British India Government started the Imperial Forest. Having recognized the need to have a chancellor forest service to mange the changed natural resources of the vast country and to organize the occasions of the Imperial Forest Department, Imperial Forest Service was constituted in 1867.

Indian Forest Service (IFS) Eligibility Qualification:
Candidate should have Bachelor’s degree of any recognized university with its equivalent subject and the age limit is 21 to 30 years.

How To Apply:
All applications must reach the “Secretary, either by hand or by Post/Speed Post or by courier on or before last date Examination.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is going to manage or control Indian Forest Service Examination 2011 for recruitment to the Indian Forest Service Officers commencing from July, 2011.

    Why is it that the eligibility criterion for entry into the Indian Forest Service does not make it compulsory for the applicant to have a Degree in Forestry? This is like not making it compulsory for an “engineer” to have an Engineering Degree. Likewise a “doctor” could be without qualifications of an MBBS.

    No matter we are facing a steady decimation of our Forests and degradation of their intrinsic quality.
