Madurai Kamaraj University is a legal University, constituted in 1966 by Govt. of Tamilnadu. It is accepted and financed by UGC and is a member of affiliation of Indian Universities. It has been reaccredited by NAAC with grade A.
The Directorate of Distance teaching of this university was constituted in 1971 and has student strength of about 1.20 lakhs. There are 39 Spot Admission Centres and 99 Study Centres outside Tamilnadu across the nation and 16 Study Centres outside the nation.
