MDES in Product Design Syllabus
Product design is a creative field that combines art and technology to better our daily lives, protect our health and make chances for industry, At the end of year four, you graduate with a masters degree, You have the advantage of the undergraduate fee repayment structure where you don’t begin paying back your fees until you are earning above a set limit, This is presently £15,000 a year, Normally you would have to pay a postgraduate course fee when you enrol.
Syllabus
Year one
Creative design projects, design skills, workshop skills, information technology skills, culture in context, manufacturing and technology, human factors, introduction to computer-aided design (CAD), drawing, business and marketing, mechanisms
Year two
Live design projects, design and innovation, technology, business and marketing, advanced CAD, professional practice, visual and presentation skills, product materials and manufacturing, overseas study tour in the final part of year two you prepare and negotiate a learning contract with teaching staff in preparation for year three.
Year three
Research for practice 1, research for practice 2, project, professional enhancement (industrial placement or exchange)
Year four
Creativity, innovation and professionalism, competitive design (project), final project
