Gulbarga University, placed on 860 acres of land in outskirts of Gulbarga, has been working as a university after 1980. The educational jurisdiction of the University bed cover around five districts Karnataka namely, Gulbarga, Bidar, Raichur, Bellary and Koppal. Apart from the main campus, which is placed near the Gulbarga city, the university has attached various colleges. In the year 1980, Gulbarga University was declared as a University by an Act of Karnataka State. Until 1970, it was working as a post-graduate centre of Karnatak University, Dharwad.
