Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL) was made on 8th march 1996 as a nodal agency of the Government of Karnataka to assist the growth of non conventional energy sources. It is registered by companies act. Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd. (KREDL) is an organization committed wholly to the advancement of non-conventional energy sources in Karnataka. It directs is to encourage plans for controlling energy from wind, small-hydro, biomass, solar energy and energy recovery from wastes through private investment.

KREDL in the 10 years of service has created a significant progression in spreading of information of the use of renewable energies to reach the grassroots level of the state. The available media like newspaper, television, radio, mobile vans, exhibitions, posters, trainings and seminars, etc. are being used to harness the renewable potential to an extent of 14.50% against the 11150 MW renewable energy potential of the state. At present, the State uses its Hydel resources to produce more power throughout the peak hours.
