Indian School of Mines (ISM) was established in 1926.Indian School of Mines (ISM) is a amply Resident and co-educational university situated in the mineral-rich belt of India in the city of Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Today, Indian School of Mines (ISM) is a multi-disciplinary institute catering to a wide range of engineering and scientific disciplines and is considered among the best engineering institutes in the nation. Indian School of Mines (ISM) was provided the tag of reputed ‘”IIT” in year 2000 (before IIT Roorkee), but due to some administration and alumni problem, it could not become IIT.But again the mission for converting it to IIT has been started.
