Indian Agricultural Research Institute Shimla (IARI Shimla) is a Regional Station of IARI. The institute was founded on 01/04/2005 through amalgamating the 2 regional stations of IARI at Shimla in order to economize on avoidable overhead expenditure. The Regional Station is located at Amartara Cottage in Shimla in Himachal Pradesh in India. The Indian Agricultural Research Institute Shimla field laboratory is armed for plant pathological, plant propagation and nutritional studies.
Mandate and Objectives
Improvement of Wheat for Northern Hills
Improvement of Barley for Northern Hills
To collect, maintain and evaluate native and exotic germplasm of temperate fruit crops.
Utilize the temperate fruit germplasm in the improvement of temperate fruit crops.
To identify research gaps in improving productivity of temperate fruit crops in various agro-climatic regions of India.
To grow cost effective methods for controlling pests and diseases of temperate fruit crops.
