Gandhigram Rural University was founded in 1956. Gandhigram Rural Institute was one of the fourteen campuses founded across the country as models and is the only one, today, with the status of an independent institute committed to rural development. Now the Institute is a huge educational complex comprising of seven full fledged faculties, twenty departments, twenty centres/extension outfits and fifty-nine different campus curricula and forty Distance Learning People’s Education Programmes, granting Doctorates, Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates Now, it is enrolling its 3rd phase with a mission to offer knowledge support to the rural sector to guide in a self-reliant, self-sufficient and self-governed community with a capability to pursue the emerging globalize.
