Nalanda University (also known as Nalanda International University) was established in 2014. The University is exclusively a post-graduate and doctoral school.

Nalanda has been a seat of knowledge for over eight centuries in the ancient kingdom of Magadha. It has been a renowned centre for learning from the 5th century until it was destroyed by Bakhtiyar Khilji in the 12th century.

The Nalanda University attracted scholars and students from near and far, some travelling all the way from Tibet, China, Korea and Central Asia in quest of knowledge

Schools and Departments
Currently three schools have been established:
School of Historical Studies
School of Environment and Ecological Studies
School of Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religion

The following schools will be started later, in a phased manner:
School of Languages and Literature
School of International Relations and Peace Studies
School of Information Sciences and Technology
School of Business Management (Public Policy and Development Studies)
