Re: What does EOC stand for in High School

As you want to know about EOC I would like to inform you that the EOC is End of Course. It is an academic assessment conducted in many states of the US by the State Board of Education. Georgia, for example, tests from the ninth to twelfth grades, and North Carolina tests for any of the four core class subjects (math, science, social studies, and English).

The official purpose of the test is to assess both individual and group knowledge and skills. EOCs are mandatory and require a minimum score for graduation eligibility.

According to Hawaii State Department of Education:
End-of-Course exams are statewide summative assessments. The course includes:
• Algebra I
• Algebra II
• Biology I
• Expository Writing I
• U.S. History
Each exam has approximately 50 questions include multiple choice and constructed response questions that are machine-scored. The student’s score is displayed on the monitor and access to the student’s score report is available to the student’s teacher via the same online reporting system.

The End-of-Course Exams serve three main purposes are following:
• To improve curriculum and instruction and ensure consistency throughout the state
• To help higher education determine if students are ready to do credit-bearing work
• To assess progress throughout the state

End-of-Course Exam subjects and contains of subjects are following:

English Language Arts:
Expository Writing I

Mathematics:
Algebra I
Algebra II

Science:

Social Studies:
U.S. History
