Re: What to do after 10th to become IAS Officer

It is nice that you want to become IAS officer in future.

After 10th, you must do 12th standard from a recognized board.

After 12th, take admission in graduation degree.

IAS exam requires graduation degree from a recognized university in any percentage.

Your age must be between 21-30 years during the applying exam.

Age limit
General 21-30 yrs
SC/ST 21-35 yrs
PH 21-40 yrs

Exam pattern
Comprises of 3 successive stages:

Civil Services –
Preliminary Examination - Objective Type (Qualifier)
Civil Services –
Main Examination –
Written Test
Interview / Personality Test

Prelim exam
In prelim exam there are two papers. The papers are on:

1. General Studies (150 marks)
2. Some optional subject (300 marks)

General Studies paper consists of questions on:
Indian Polity & Economy
History of India including Indian National Movement
Indian and World Geography
Current Affairs of National and International Importance
General and day-to-day Science
Mental Ability and Basics of Statistics etc.

Optional Subjects

Agriculture
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science
Botany
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Commerce
Economics
Electrical Engineering
Geography
Geology
Indian History
Law
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Medical Science
Philosophy
Physics
Political Science
Psychology
Public Administration
Sociology
Statistics
Zoology
