Western Carolina University is a coeducational public university located in Cullowhee, North Carolina, United States. The university is a constituent campus of the University of North Carolina system

The first Baccalaureate Emergency Medical Care (EMC) program in the nation, WCU's EMC Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs through the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the EMS Professions (CoAEMSP).

As a WCU EMC student, during completion of your paramedic studies you will concentrate in one of two areas: Health Management or Science (Pre Med).

-Health Management Concentration: prepares graduates for leadership roles in healthcare, EMS administration positions, and graduate school.

-Science/Pre-Med: prepares graduates for medical school, physician assistant programs, dental school, physical therapy programs, and graduate school.

To be eligible for admission into the professional course sequence, students must have completed 60 semester hours, including Liberal Studies and pre-professional course requirements, with a minimum 2.5 grade point average.

Pre-professional requirements include BIOL 291 and BIOL 292 (with an average of a C or higher), two semesters of Chemistry, and EMC 240 and EMC 241 or hold a minimum of a current North Carolina EMT-Basic certification (EMC 240 and 241 are offered every Fall and Spring semester).

The deadline for receipt of all application material for early admission of traditional students is January 15.
