Re: Wavefront and Wavelets What is Difference
The difference between the wavefront and wavelets is the wavelets is the new wave particle which act as a new source where as the wavefront is the wave generated by the wave particle. Wavefront : An imaginary surface joining all points in space that are reached at the same instant by a wave propagating through a medium. A wave front is defined as a surface of constant phase of waves. For example, if a stone is dropped in a calm pool of water, waves spread out in circular rings from the point of impact. All points on such a circle are oscillating in phase. Such a circle is known as a wave front. Wavelets : A wavelet is a wave like oscillation with an amplitude that start out at zero, increase and then decrease back to zero. A wavelet is a wave-like oscillation with an amplitude that starts out at zero, increases, and then decreases back to zero. It can typically be visualized as a "brief oscillation" like one might see recorded by a seismograph or heart monitor. Generally, wavelets are purposefully crafted to have specific properties that make them useful for signal processing. |
