There is no direct recruitment for Assistant Commissioner of Police. It comes by promotion only
1)First of all You have to give civil service exam held by UPSC.
2) If you qualify civil services exam and become IPS, you will get posted as ASP
3) If you qualify group 1 exam by state public service commission, you can become DSP
from the level of ASP and DSP , you can get promotion to ACP, based on your performance.

Civil Service examination is orgainsed every year by UPSC(union public service commission.)in following three stages:
1. Preliminary examination- orgainsed during the second half of may.
after qualifying preliminary examination, you need to appear for
2. Main examination- conducted during the month of Oct/Nov
3. Interview

Eligibility:
1. Degree from a recognised university
2. Age limit:
General- between 21-30 yrs.
SC/ST – between21-35 yrs.

Total no. of attempts:

After getting selected for IPS you will be under a probation period as an SP of a district in any state in which you have been allocated.
After the completion of probation period of two years, you will be confirmed as a district superintendent of police in cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore are known as ACP.
