Re: VLSI Vs Embedded System

Both VLSI and Embedded system are very good courses and bright scope in future.

Embedded systems is a more interesting field, as it sits on top of everything.

VLSI is the core part though.

VLSI design is perfect, as the whole system depends on it

However, the embedded engineer may not be aware of what goes on inside the chip.

Fact is, most of the semiconductor companies hesistates to relegate their VLSI design jobs to India.

As for embedded systems, you should know how to design a simple computer system, including a processor, its connection to various I/O devices (based on the needs of a system), and implement them on a printed circuit board.

Re: VLSI Vs Embedded System

In response to your question , the details are as follow:
1. COURSE BRIEFING:
.Internship opportunities for graduate students (MS/Ph.D. students) in digital VLSI design and related areas are good and fairly plenty in the U.S., and pay very well (e.g., US$30-US$40 per hour).
.However, you need to have taken at least 2-3 VLSI design classes, where they are exposed to physical design (or custom layout) and RTL design
.If you are an Undergrads you can pursue internships in VLSI design/verification, or related aspects such as cell library development, if you have taken VLSI design classes.
.Internship opportunities in embedded systems, especially for undergrads vary a lot more than those in VLSI design, since the required skill set is highly dependent on the internship position.
. Due to this the pay/stipend would vary considerably too. They range from developing aspects of the embedded software, software testing, board/system-level testing, printed circuit board design (or embedded hardware design), system-level modeling (with UML/SystemC) and subsequent implementation at RTL, and hardware/software partitioning. trends.
2. CARRIER OPPOURTUNITIES:
1. Career Options for ECE Students in VLSI and Embedded Domain.
2. Telecommunication,Software Development,Consumer Electronics,Semiconductor, Embedded Systems.
3.(a)Product Based Company which involves building our own product and selling it in market o
3(b).Service Based company – Building product, application or part of them, for other companies and their clients
4. Telecom equipment R&D, etc
5. EDA Company – Electronics Design Automation Software development Ex. Synopsys, Cadence, Mentor, Xilinx etc.
6.ASIC Design Company – Application Specific Integrated Circuit Ex. Texas Instruments, Intel, Cisco, Xilinx, Altera etc
7.FPGA Design Company – Programmable Logic Devices like FPGA and CPLD Design Ex. Xilinx, Altera, Tejas Network, Cisco etc. o Fab/Foundry – IC manufacturing/fabrication Ex. Intel, STMicro, IBM, TSMC, UMC, TI and Samsung etc.
6. 1. EDA Flow 2. ASIC Design Flow 3. PLDs Flow (FPGA/CPLDs) Frontend Tools Backend Tools VLSI 4. Chip Fabrication Frontend Flow Backend Flow Frontend Flow Backend Flow
7. Physical design Design Architecture
8. Design Architecture Backend
9.Software designed and developed to serve ASIC Design, FPGA Design, Analog Mixed signal and Circuit design community o Software IP designs o Etc.
Thank you…..
